District 32 Release Status
VADOC District 32 serves Henrico County through Virginia’s Community Corrections system. Its appearance as a location in the Inmate & Supervisee Locator can show that a person is assigned to state community supervision. That may follow release from a VADOC institution, parole, probation, or another state-authorized path. It does not mean the office confined or physically released the person.
Community supervision is release from incarceration, not always final discharge from a sentence. Parole is conditional release for an eligible person under Virginia Parole Board authority. Probation is court-ordered supervision and may follow a suspended sentence or prison term. Post-release supervision is a separate supervised period required after confinement. District 32 administers the state assignment; the Henrico Sheriff records the local jail event, and a VADOC institution records its prison release.
Verify District 32 Supervision
Start with the VADOC Inmate & Supervisee Locator. Search with at least the first three letters of the first name and the complete last name, or the seven-digit DOC ID. Optional filters include location, race, sex, and age range. The state says the tool updates daily but may be inaccurate or outdated, so record the date and compare identifiers.
A careful verification uses both the public result and the office responsible for the displayed assignment.
- Confirm that the person’s case entered VADOC custody or state supervision rather than only the Henrico local system.
- Search the name or DOC ID, accept the disclaimer, and compare all available identifiers.
- Read the location and correctional-status language. A district result differs from an institution or jail result.
- Use the current official directory to confirm District 32’s contact information.
- Ask whether the office can confirm its own assignment and current releasable correctional status.
Confidential case notes, risk assessments, personal contacts, and detailed supervision records are not public merely because an assignment may appear in the locator. If a durable status record is required, direct a narrow request to the office or VADOC records custodian that holds it.
Note: A District 32 locator result can confirm a state supervision path without proving the sentence has ended.

The VADOC facilities and offices directory is the authoritative starting point for the current listing. The directory named Stephanie Medlin as chief at the research date, but personnel can change and should be rechecked before use. A caller should have the exact name and DOC ID when available and should ask only for confirmation the office is permitted to provide.

District 32 Versus Henrico
Henrico County operates local Community Corrections apart from VADOC District 32. Local Pretrial Services evaluates people for court bond consideration and supervises those whom the court places on pretrial supervision. Local Probation supervises eligible adults ordered by a local court. These are not the same as a state probation, parole, or post-release supervision assignment.
Henrico’s intake rules are unusually specific. A person ordered to local probation or Pretrial Services who is released or referred before 4 p.m. must report that day. Failure to report can lead to a capias, which is a court order directing that a person be taken into custody.

District 32 Records Requests
A state supervision record should be requested from VADOC, not from the county jail. Identify the person, seven-digit DOC ID if known, the relevant dates, and the exact records sought. Suitable targets include current correctional status, assigned office, actual release or discharge date and type, and an applicable release order if releasable. Broad demands for case notes or private supervision details are unlikely to match the public-status question.
VADOC accepts requests by mail, fax, email, in person, and telephone, with writing preferred. The agency’s FOIA guidance lists FOIA@vadoc.virginia.gov, 804-963-2953, and PO Box 26963, Richmond, VA 23261. The same Virginia five-workday response framework and possible seven-workday extension apply. Actual costs and an estimate-based deposit can apply.
The Parole Board is a separate record source. Its monthly decision reports may show a grant, denial, continuation, revocation, or discharge decision. A grant authorizes parole but does not prove physical release. The VADOC institution and release paperwork establish the prison event, while District 32 establishes its own supervision assignment.

District 32 Absconder Limits
VADOC’s Most Wanted page is a selective fugitive and absconder channel, not a full supervision roster. Absence from that page does not establish compliance, discharge, or lack of prior supervision. An absconder listing, when present, concerns an alleged failure or warrant during community supervision. It does not erase the fact that the person had earlier left prison.
Warrant and supervision status should be confirmed through the responsible authority and lawful court sources. Do not use a negative selective list as proof. The public locator may lag, and a district may limit oral disclosure. Record the exact source, wording, and lookup date rather than reducing the result to “released” or “wanted.”
If a violation leads to revocation, the person may return to custody. A Virginia Parole Board report can use outcomes such as Continue on Parole, Revoke, or Discharge in the cases it covers. Those decision terms should not be converted into a physical custody timestamp without the prison, jail, or receiving record.

From Prison to District 32
The custody chain explains what District 32 can and cannot prove. A person may begin in Jail West or Jail East on a Henrico case, transfer to VADOC, leave a state institution under release papers, and then report to District 32. At each step a different office creates the controlling record. The Sheriff’s booking and release sheet cannot prove state discharge. District 32’s assignment cannot provide the exact local jail exit.
On a VADOC facility release, the person signs the applicable Order of Release, Conditions of Probation, or Conditions of Parole with a witness. State staff review warrants, detainers, court orders, discipline affecting the date, and uncalculated sentences before the event. That review is why a projected release date is not enough. Once the person appears at District 32, incarceration may have ended, but the signed terms remain active until discharge or another lawful change.
The Henrico County release record path helps reconcile the local jail entry, state locator, court order, and receiving office. Use District 32 only for its own role. If another VADOC district appears, contact that district instead.
