Henrico Parole and Probation Differences

Release from a jail or prison and release from a sentence are not the same. Probation is supervision ordered by a court, often with suspended time or after a period of confinement. Parole is conditional release for a person who is legally eligible and falls under Virginia Parole Board authority. Virginia generally abolished discretionary parole for felony offenses committed on or after January 1, 1995, subject to statutory exceptions. The offense date and full sentence history matter.

Henrico also has local Pretrial Services and Local Probation. Pretrial supervision can follow release on bond before the case is resolved. Local Probation monitors eligible adults placed under a local court order. Neither should be confused with VADOC District 32, which supervises state probationers and parolees assigned to Henrico.

Supervision

Community-based correctional control after or instead of confinement.

Discharge

The formal end of the supervision status or sentence component.

Absconder

A person alleged to have stopped reporting or left supervision without approval.

Capias

A court command directing that a person be taken into custody.

Verify Henrico Post-Release Supervision

Begin with the system that imposed the supervision. A person leaving VADOC prison may still appear in the Inmate & Supervisee Locator with a probation or parole district. Someone released from Jail West on a local bond can report to Henrico Pretrial Services without any VADOC assignment. The court docket supplies the order, while the supervising office controls its own current assignment.

1. Identify whether the last custody was a Henrico jail or a VADOC institution.
2. Search the VADOC Inmate & Supervisee Locator with the name or seven-digit DOC ID when state responsibility is plausible.
3. Read the location or status in custody terms. A community district can mean incarceration ended while supervision continues.
4. Check the Henrico court case for probation, suspended time, post-release supervision, bond terms, or revocation.
5. Contact District 32 for state supervision or Henrico Community Corrections for a local order.
6. Ask for releasable confirmation of assignment or discharge, not confidential case notes.

VADOC says its locator updates daily and may contain inaccurate or outdated information. A negative result is not final proof of discharge. Preserve the search date, compare identifiers, and ask the proper agency for a current status record when the result conflicts with the court file.

Note: A release date marks the end of confinement only when the event is completed and no other custodian takes control.

Henrico State Supervision at District 32

VADOC District 32 Probation and Parole is the state community-corrections office serving Henrico. The office is at 2914 Hungary Spring Road, Richmond, VA 23228. The research found a phone conflict: the VADOC directory displayed 804-672-7486, while Henrico’s intake page displayed 804-674-7286. Because the middle digits differ, the live official directory should be checked before calling rather than silently choosing one.

The VADOC facilities and offices directory is the source for the current District 32 entry.

The directory identifies the state office. It should be rechecked for phone and personnel changes before contact.

Henrico Local Probation Reporting

Henrico Community Corrections is not District 32. It operates local Pretrial Services and Local Probation. Its intake office is in the Human Services Building at 8600 Dixon Powers Drive, lower level, Henrico, VA 23228. The intake number is 804-501-5245, with posted weekday intake hours from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The main Community Corrections number is 804-501-5188.

Henrico’s intake rule is unusually specific. A person ordered to local probation or Pretrial Services who is released before 4 p.m. must report that day. A person released after 4 p.m. reports the next business day between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. State probationers and parolees are directed to District 32 instead.

Failure to report can lead to a capias. The signed order and release instructions control, so confirm them rather than relying on a general schedule.

Henrico Reentry Is Still Supervision

Henrico and VADOC describe a prerelease bridge for approved participants tied to Goochland, Henrico, or New Kent. Participants complete required recovery phases and may, when approved, move through work release before being released in the community where they plan to live. The ORBIT program follows a separate four-stage recovery path that can move from secure programming to work release and GPS home monitoring.

These are custody-transition facts. Work release requires a return to jail after the approved period. Home electronic monitoring remains sentence service. A person can therefore be physically present in the community but not discharged. Verify the stage through the program, court order, and assigned supervision office.

Note: An approved alternative may reduce secure confinement while leaving court, jail, or correctional control in force.

Henrico Parole Decisions and Release

The Virginia Parole Board, not the Henrico Sheriff, makes discretionary parole decisions. Board monthly reports may show the DOC number, name, decision and certification dates, jurisdiction, offense and sentence fields, reasons or conditions, and member votes. Outcomes can include Grant or Not Grant. Violation cases may show Continue on Parole, Revoke, or Discharge.

A grant does not prove that the prison gate opened. Board procedure permits a grant to be suspended or rescinded before physical release when new facts or violations arise. Confirm the actual event with VADOC’s release documentation and later supervision status. Public meeting agendas and minutes provide decision context but are not a release certificate.

Virginia’s older parole-eligibility schedule is detailed. Va. Code §53.1-151 generally begins eligibility at different fractions and service periods based on the number of prior commitments, with separate rules for life terms and excluded offenses. Va. Code §53.1-40.01 also provides defined geriatric conditional-release thresholds for qualifying people other than those serving a Class 1 felony. These laws establish potential eligibility, not a personal release date. A full sentence history and the current statutory text are needed before drawing any conclusion.

Public final deliberations and votes have been held through scheduled Board meetings since July 1, 2024. The calendar can show agendas, live access, and minutes, while monthly reports provide the recorded outcome. Meeting timing is irregular and should not be described as a fixed weekly or monthly hearing cycle.

Note: A Parole Board grant is a decision record, not proof that VADOC completed physical release.

Henrico Supervision Violations and Absconders

Conditions come from the court order, parole document, or VADOC supervision record. A violation allegation can lead to a warrant, capias, hearing, change in conditions, or return to custody. An absconder status describes an alleged failure to report or remain available to supervision. It does not erase the earlier physical release from prison or jail.

VADOC’s Most Wanted page is selective. It is not a complete list of everyone on supervision or everyone alleged to have absconded. Absence from that page does not show compliance, discharge, or lack of supervision. Use the locator, court docket, and assigned office instead. Virginia Jail VINE can report a later local custody event, but a VINE event does not replace the supervision record.

Notification systems also divide along the custody line. Virginia Jail VINE covers participating local and regional jails. VADOC uses its own victim-notification process for state prison transfers and releases. A registration created for a Henrico jail event does not automatically follow the person into VADOC, so the correct state channel must be used after a transfer. An alert can establish what the reporting agency transmitted, but it does not disclose all supervision conditions or prove final discharge.

Confirm Henrico Supervision Discharge

Supervision ends through a formal discharge, sentence expiration, court order, or other lawful action. A person may leave incarceration on one date and remain under probation, parole, or post-release supervision for a later period. Likewise, the end of one local order does not prove that no state or federal supervision exists.

For state status, ask VADOC or District 32 for releasable confirmation of the current correctional status and discharge date. For local probation, pair the Henrico court order with Community Corrections confirmation. Keep court, custody, and supervision dates separate so each record answers only the question it was created to answer.

VADOC Operating Procedure 050.1 describes VACORIS as the continuing official correctional record. New periods of incarceration or supervision can be added over the person’s lifetime. That makes a releasable status response more useful than a screenshot when the question is whether supervision has truly ended. The full file is not automatically public, and confidential notes, assessments, contact details, and protected information remain subject to law and agency review.

A court docket may show that probation was ordered or later revoked, but the docket summary may not capture every operational status change. Ask for the signed order when the web entry is unclear. If the person was supervised by another district, that office rather than District 32 controls its own assignment. A move between districts is not discharge.

Note: Final discharge needs an agency or court record that ends the specific supervision term being checked.
