Henrico Releases to ICE
No official source in the research identifies either Henrico jail as an ICE detention facility. ICE becomes relevant when it assumes custody after the criminal jail event. That handoff is a transfer. It should not be described as a community release, even if the Henrico system records that the person left Sheriff control. Jail West, Jail East, a federal custodian, VADOC, and ICE each answer only for their own part of the chain.
An immigration detainer is a request tied to ICE’s custody interest. ICE says it can ask a criminal jail for advance notice and for up to 48 hours to allow pickup after the person otherwise would be released. If ICE assumes custody, the Henrico record should be read as release or transfer to another authority, while the ICE record becomes the active custody source. If ICE does not take custody within the permitted period, ICE says the holding agency must release the person.
Release from a Henrico criminal case and release from ICE custody are two separate events.

ICE Release Record Questions
The locator can identify a present or recent custody lead, but exact release method may require an ICE record. Ask for an existing custody or release record for a named person and identify the A-number, date range, and facility when known. A narrow request is easier to route than a broad demand for all documents. The person, an authorized representative, or counsel may have access paths that are not available to the public.

Do not ask the Henrico Circuit Clerk to explain immigration status. The clerk documents the criminal court case, and Henrico guidance says Circuit staff do not supply charges or dispositions by phone or email. ICE controls its own civil detention information. Likewise, Virginia Jail VINE is tied to the participating jail event and does not replace ODLS after a transfer.
ICE and Henrico Jail Records
The Sheriff’s live search lists people presently in the Henrico jail system. It is not an ICE locator, and it does not preserve an accomplished release field. If a name disappears, the possibilities include community release, transfer between Jail East and West, movement to VADOC or another locality, a federal or ICE handoff, data lag, or a name mismatch. The Henrico released-inmate search path combines the current check with VINE, courts, phone confirmation, and a records request.
For durable proof, ask Henrico for the intake or booking record, the commitment and release entry, the actual release date and time, and the recorded transfer disposition or receiving authority. The response may be limited by exemptions and redactions, but it can establish what Henrico recorded. If the entry names ICE, continue with ICE. Do not use the criminal jail’s projected release date as proof that either custody event occurred.
What an ICE Release Means
Leaving ICE detention can have more than one legal and physical outcome. The public result should be quoted exactly rather than turned into a broad claim. Removal, transfer, release under immigration supervision, or another case result may apply. A public locator is not a substitute for the immigration order or an authorized record, and it does not resolve a separate criminal case.
That limit also runs in reverse. A BOP record marked released does not prove release from ICE. A VADOC community-supervision result does not address immigration custody. A Virginia registry entry applies only to people with a statutory registration duty. Match each claim to the agency that supplied it.

A narrow request reduces name confusion and helps the custodian locate the correct event without constructing a report that does not already exist.
